I think my beloved cat Lulu has a UTI. We have an appt at the vet on Monday. They told me to bring a urine sample. Anyone have a suggestion how the hell I'm supposed to get a sample?

LOL! good point - not so easy to get a CAT's urine sample when they go IN THE LITTER BOX! haha - maybe um, empty the cat litter out and leave a plastic bag and so IF she goes without litter u can just take out the bag with the urine in it....??? i dont know if she'd go without something to dig in tho - cat's r picky like that...

my suggestion is about the same as devilsmistress... although you might have to lock up the cat in the room or something so she will go there, and if you have more than one kitty to make sure that the sample is hers.
damn what a weird request... seems they would have to use a catheter in the vet's office?

My suggestion is similar. Make an appointment with your vet for late in the day. Remove your litter boxes so that Lulu is unable to go when she wants. She'll let you know when it is becoming unbearable, that's when you take her in to the vet and let them take the sample.

Get a tiny little cup and watch when she goes to the box, and quick stick it under her?? j/k Ah, don't know call --the vet and see if they have any bright ideas!!

What the heck? I bet the person on the phone forgot you had a cat. They'll take the sample; just make sure she has plenty of water available to drink.

It was the vet I was speaking with. (Give me a little credit) She just didn't want Lulu to have to go thru catherizing...

I just know if I even tried to get close to Hobbes or Penske when they are in the litter box they'd freak out.

Cover the litter in the litter box with (layers) of plastic wrap. Some will escape but you'll salvage enough. You don't need a huge sample :)

Poor kitty, hope she's ok !

Thats why I love having dogs. Sometimes, they even offer up urine samples unasked for.

Ironically, Sassy likes to go use her box while I'm on the john.

If I even walk past the bathroom when lulu's using the box, she leaves. I think if she could shut the door to the bathroom while she used the litterbox, she would. LOL

Wow! I've never had a cat, so I don't know...but I sure would like to hear how you did manage to get it.

Penske will come into the bathroom when someone goes. Then she either goes over to the litter box or jumps into the be bath tub to drink the dripping water.

Lulu likes to hide behind the shower curtain at night and will 'swat' at it - scares me to death when she does it.

And both of the cats are fascinated by the flushing of the toilet. Even if the lid is down, they still go over to investigate.

catheterizing a cat would be something like catheterizing a demented old lady!! I think I'd rather rassle an alligator!! lots of luck!!
