This is gross, so if you have a weak stomach, skip the 1st paragraph. Went back to the dr. today to supposedly get my drain out. My left hip was feeling rather swollen, hot, and protruding (sounds like a description in a porn flick!). Out came the big mean needle again. He removed more than 2000cc's of fluid. (Think about a syringe the size of a turkey baster x 6). Drain still in. He said maybe it will come out in 'a week or two'. GRRRR. The hip is filling up with fluid again already. Wah wah wah. What if I just swallowed a huge sponge? We tried diuretics, it didn't make a difference... To add to my turmoil, I had an exchange with "Ned" today. He's been seeing someone else but it wasn't anything serious. I told him that I figured it was inevitable but it still stung to hear it. He asked why (that's a duh!??!) But, in the spirit of being candid, genuine and honest I told him that I still harbored some hope we'd try again in the future. Surprisingly, he said that he thought I was fun to hang around with and he wouldn't be against the idea. Do I REALLY want to go through that again? I'm thinking of hanging up my dating spurs and resigning myself to a life of celibacy and spinsterhood. |

Are you SURE that your doctor doesn't work for 'Butterball'? He may have mistakenly implanted a self-baster.
I am SO sorry you are having to put up with post-op issues. Wednesday, I go in for a 'nuclear stress test'. I'll be sure and ask if I am going to experience any long-term recovery issues.

UGh. I am sorry to hear that you are still having issues with that drain.
As for giving up dating and living a life of spinsterhood...well...it is ok for a short while to recharge batteries but over the long haul, it gets kind of dull.

too bad this has turned into the drainage odessy. I had an I&D for a few hundred cc's, but that was it. I have noticed that some orthopedic patients tend to get fluid build up in the incisions needing removal. Sort of nasty, I agree. Do you think another opinion would be worthwhile? gosh, good luck with all this.....

It would take a while to get approved for a 2nd opinion and with the holiday.... This dr. is the head of PS for the largest hospital in Atlanta. His nurses rock. I will talk to them ina few hours and see what they say.

I am thinking I would prefer the dullness to the drama and the heartache. I have done it for tw0 different 5 year spells. I just don't do relationships well.

The drain sounds positively terrible! I'm not sure what kind of karma we have but there's got to be a day when needles won't be in the equation.
I can so sympathize about the bloated thingy. I have dubbed myself 'pumpkin-head'. I look in the mirror and all I see is my Great Aunt who quite possibly had the biggest face known to man! I cried for several days but realized that only made things worse, lol. While confined to the bed today my wedding rings fell off in my sleep. For some reason my bra won't stay on my shoulders, but my face and gut are HUGE. Steroids are miracle drugs I know, but the things they do to your body are just freakish!
I hope we're both up and going again ASAP!

What is wrong with your hips? Gosh I wish it didn't hurt.
I like your blog. I was reading about the dolphins the other day and it was funny because you came to mind. Don't know why either...Just thought you should know!
