if it's you doing it, it's stating your needs. if it's the other person, they're being needy ;)

The difference is that stating your needs is not the same as insisting that they be met.

Stating your needs is just that. You say I need ________. Usually for me it is attention. If the person I am stating this to is unable to meet my need, I go elsewhere for it. Being needy is when you state your need, the other person is unwilling to fill the need and then you insist upon it from them anyways. I kind of think of it as when a person is demanding or whiney or manipulative. Of course, the person who goes about meeting their needs in appropriate ways is just as "needy" as the person who doesnt but generally if you get your needs met in appropriate ways, no one will consider you "needy"

Stating your needs is going to a cheap bar and trying to get picked up by any plummer, hippie, or nerd geek who shows interest :)

sometimes people say you are needy when they are trying to downplay the fact that they are just not meeting your needs...

I guess it depends on how you relay your needs...if you're having to harp on it you might be needy...or then again, the person you're appealing to might just be a jackass who doesn't care about your needs enough. ;-)

Stating my needs would be stating the desires that must be satisfied in order for my goals to be achieved.
Being needy is seeking reassurance from someone whose opinion of myself I value...especially when I'm feeling depressed.
A person whom I'll never act needy towards would be one who does not aid the achieving of my needs, or hinders them.
