Bad News
08.30.04 (4:05 pm)   [edit]

I just heard back from the insurance company that has been evaluating me for Long-term Disability (since APRIL). They said that my problems are 'pre-existing' which is baloney. They have lab reports and doctor's notes indicating otherwise. I was diagnosed with the adrenal tumor in April/May'04 when the policy went into effect in October 03.

Now I have to appeal. I can only imagine how long that process is going to take. So much for orders of no stress that my doctors ordered...

Anyone have experience with appealing these sorts of claims?

Scuba, sorry to hear about the tumor. You may want to get a lawyer involved. Or at least ask advice from one. My ex wife had to go on federal disability and she went through a lawyer. I am not sure how it goes with an insurance company.

Scuba I read about this, and it involved several letters from different Physicians (repeatedly on your behalf) as well as letters from yourself and your lawyer. Kick 'em to the curb girlfriend. They will always try to rip you off, shame on them.

I'm awaiting details of the appeal process but I will be contacting my state's insurance commissioner's office. They have a special consumer-assistance department - will see what guidelines and advice they can offer.

Fortunately, the new doctor I saw last week should be able to discount a lot of this - just need to get my hands on the details of the reasons for the appeal so I can come out fighting.

I understand them wanting to do a thorough review - but they apparently didn't review squat, they just wrote it off because of the other diagnoses.

It's been a sucky week and I need a vacation. STAT!

Wow... sorry to hear about your insurance woes. If you find a good way to appeal with the tyrants, let me know. I have a $900 med bill outstanding that I believe should be the insurance's responsibility, but they (of course) disagree.

Either way, best of luck with this... :)

I can't offer much help because I am only going through the process right now. Plus I think argueing with the VA is prolly a little different than argueing with an insurance company.

I just got back from vaca but I still have to use 12 more days in Sep. Where are we going? lol

PS I'm baaaaaaaack!! Whoo-hoo!!

Where are "we" going to? Um, wouldn't you have a problem with the woman you've been traveling with and boinking?

had a buddy who was an insurance broker... it's all a gimmick... they do that, cos most people will let it slide rather than get embroiled in a protracted and long process... get a solicitor/lawyer to fire off a let to them, that shd get the wheels moving a lot quicker hun! :)

I don't have $ to throw towards an atty. I got my breast reduction covered 100% by insurance - when even my dr. said they wouldn't cover it... So I'm hoping I won't be over my head with this. Thanks for the support though. ;)

I was quasi-kidding. Yes, I would not "boink" another woman, as J makes me very happy and I have desire to screw that up.
