Playing Possum
08.22.04 (9:35 am)   [edit]

Last night, I was cleaning the kitchen (exciting Saturday night eh?) and I noticed Sassy, my black cat, staring intently thru the back door. Clearly, something had her attention.

I turned on the lights over the deck.

And there was a HUGE ugly possum. Totally unphased by the lights. Looked like a HUGE rat. Walking around the deck (I guess), looking for food.

I have an 8ft fence surrounding the back yard. How the hell did he get in. He had to weigh AT LEAST 20lbs.

This a.m., I went out in the backyard to make sure he wasn't out there - gave the cats the all clear signal to play.

I live in the city - there are no woods. Where the hell did this critter come from?

And I had just called the cats in not 15 mins before - and had the back door open all day.

What if he had come inside?!??!

Possum stew anyone?

ugh, i'm not sure where you're at, but here in australia they are pests. get in your roof and piss all over the insulation. then they have babies that do the same. meh.

It could have been worse. It could have been a skunk!

yeah possums show up all the time in the city. Where they are hiding durring the day i have no idea but i think its more common to see them in the city than it is in the woods.

Only time I've ever seen them, they were rather flat and had tread marks over them.

yuck possums are disgusting! they can show up anywhere and hide under houses or anything they can get under during the day then come out to drive you nuts at night... my husband hates them so much he will run off the road to hit one (i know it's horrible, but they are horrible little creatures) good luck getting rid of it

There are skunks EVERYWHERE near my barracks. I think it's because of the dumb shits who toss garbage out their doors, but I'm pretty sure the skunks are staging a siege, and we'll be attacked before long. I almost stepped on three this past weekend alone!

Evil? Are they satanically possessed or something?

I couldn't kill an animal - I even feel guilty killing bugs (except roaches and skeeters)

Goats? Terrified of them? Do tell! There's gotta be a hysterical story behind that.
