Video has definitely killed radio
07.17.04 (6:24 pm)   [edit]
In a "previous life", I used to be a radio DJ / Personality / On-Air Talent. (Call it what you want.) for a couple of "major stations" in Atlanta.

It was fun but the hours and pay totally sucked. I also wasn't that thrilled with the lifestyle - staying out all night drinking, people with questionable goals in life, etc.

Ever since I left radio to 'get a real job' as my parents referred to, I haven't listened to commercial radio. I listen to talk radio, but otherwise, I spin my own CD's.

Today, I actually listened to the radio for a few hours while I was cleaning. OMG. It SUCKS. The playlists are getting shorter and shorter. The public is being spoon-fed or having this format shoved down their throats.

No wonder such crap is topping the charts. If you listen to shit songs that are replayed every 90 minutes, it's going to grow on you most of the time.

I haven't seen MTV in years either - I don't even wanna know what that has denegrated to...

I didn't know you worked in "the industry." I've been a spot DJ on occasion when a local AM station needed a fill-in for it's "big band" format... lemme tell you, I was bringin in the ladies...

Anyway, MTV sucks, radio sucks, et. al.

I can't stand the radio. I try to listen to it every so often but it starts to make me angry and I end up shutting it off pretty quickly.

Big Band? LMAO

Uh, not me. I have quite a colorful previous life with celebs, etc. It was odd. People would ask for my autograph. How f'ing odd is that? It's not like I wrote a song or can sing. I just introduced music and bantered...

My shows were original. I'd come up with things like "The Hair Report" advising humidity, wind, etc and 'extra gel' needed, shit like that.

I always got compliments on my interviews with artists - I never asked the 'typical' questions.

Too many jocks like to hear themselves talk. Ego's. No one listening gives a damn if you think a song is really cool.

And now with the automation and the internet - many jocks do simultaneous shows - none of the spontaneity...

I'm convinced most playlists only have about 3 or 4 songs on them. I burn all my own CD's as well.

MTV = 24 hours of Nick and Jessica. Bloody boring!!!! If you get an opportunity in your area, check out the station called FUSE. They actually play music videos, some of it rather obscure, though their play lists tend to be pretty short, as well...

I'm not much of a radio listener either. Just too much crap on the air!

Jessica Simpson makes me want to HURL. And her remake of "Take My Breath Away" makes me want to hurl twice. And watching her facial expressions when she sings- horrible. (Someone commented to me once to imagine her expressions when she's boinking her hubby!) EWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
