Stairway to hell
09.20.07 (2:29 pm)   [edit]
Appt this morning with a client. Suite 1420. That means 14th floor. Wait at the elevator for EIGHT minutes. People kept passing by saying it was a 'slow elevator'. With 20 floors, that's a lot of people trying to get up/down. I kept wanting to go to the stairs to huff it, but I'd hear a "DING!" from the floor above, thinking that the elevator would be coming. Toting a computer bag with 2 laptops and related crap, wearing 3 1/2 inch heels, I figured I'd hike up a couple of floors and catch an elevator. Clever idea right? Wrong. Every door in the stairwell was LOCKED. I was okay going up 12 floors, but I started to get a little winded then. Wondering if I was going to have to hike it back down. (No cell phone signal to try to call client to ask for help getting out of the stairwell) Thankfully, someone came out of the 14th floor stairwell just as I was approaching it, so they could let me in. So I've done my cardio for the day, tyvm!

Me too! First of all, I'd NEVER think of carrying two laptops with assorted paraphernalia, wearing 3 1/2 inch heels, and walking up 14 floors ~ call 911 because I'd need my head examined ~ by a sexy doctor, of course!

Whew is right SZ!! I can hardly type I am so exhausted just imagining such a feat!!!!!

...even w/o the computer stuff ~ if you survived, yes, you've done your cardio for the day!!! huff/puff/huff!!

Ridiculous, was it an old building?

You would never catch me in 3 1/2 inch heels walking anywhere. Period. I applaud you, for making it 14 floors. I would have died. I'd say you've done your cardio for the next three weeks.

I guess I should include some sneakers in my bag for emergencies?

I'm ALWAYS in at least 3 inch heels. Except when I'm working out.

Sneakers and a towel to dry yourself off.

Not a brand new building but it's fairly new. And with 20 floors, there's a lot of people in there. I can't believe that everyone is so complacent about it. (What if I was in a wheelchair?) And with all the stairwells locked, what if it had been an emergency?

Fortunately, I was able to take the elevator down. It was lunchtime and the masses were heading down to the restaurants. (But what goes down must go up, right? So what was the deal with the elevators?)

Reply to: scubadiva,
Absolutely ~ what was the deal with the elevators? I am glad you survived my dear.

I was trapped in an elevator for quite some time a few months ago when the power went out. Fortunately, I was alone and could entertain myself.
