Love in an Elevator
06.20.07 (4:47 pm)   [edit]
Well, it's a good title isn't it? Unfortunately, I got no love today. If it's less than 6 flights, I usually take the stairs unless I'm wearing heels and in a hurry. I was in a hurry today and I got in the elevator to down to a Starbucks from a meeting in the same building on the 5th floor. I sashay into the elevator. It's just me. Push button. Door closes. Elevator starts moving. Elevator stops. Power out. Fortunately, I'm not claustrophobic. Unfortunately, my cell phone reception was zilch in the elevator. And I didn't have my laptop with me. Unfortunately, I wasn't stranded with a single hetero appealing male under 45 and over 30 either. After 15 minutes, I got comfortable, sitting on the floor. I was playing sing-a-long with myself because I figured if anyone heard me singing, they'd get me out just to get me to shut up. There was no phone in the elevator either. I tried pulling the help button, but it didn't do anything. About 20 minutes of being suspended in mid-air, the power came back on. I was 10 minutes late for my appt in Starbucks, bur fortunately, the power was out there too so the person knew I wasn't bullshitting. I need a nap.

wow, u were super-calm. i would've been on panic mode for at least five minutes. And this - "I was playing sing-a-long with myself because I figured if anyone heard me singing, they'd get me out just to get me to shut up" is too funny for words and I bet not really true :)

I only get claustrophobic when the elevator has no lights and is not moving!
I found this out all by accident one day...
Thanks for the comments on my blog scubs

If I had my MP3 player with me, it would have been a lot easier. You know how you sing and sort of forget the words? That was totally me. But the first song that came to mind was Aerosmith's "Love in an Elevator"

Fortunately, I'm not claustrophobic... The mgr in Starbucks overheard what happened and offered me free pastries. I was a good girl and refused. (Forever on a diet!)

i had to read that twice "mgr ..overheard .. and offered me free pasties"...
I guess that's coz I just read about the flopping boobies?
*shakes head at self.

My apologies!

You do a lot of business at StarBucks, I see. Last week I had my first iced coffee. I'm not a coffee drinker, and I consider such drinks to be far too expensive, but anyhow decided to take the plunge. It was great! So,this cheepskate will now be drinking $4 coffees.

I think I'll stay away from commenting on your more recent post. Naughty title.

I'd never pay $4 for coffee. I have a giftcard to use at Starbucks - occasionally I'll have an iced green tea but that's it. Since I work remotely and my meetings are always offsite - sometimes its more time-effective to camp out at a Starbucks than go back/forth to my home. I plan my appts so that I can hit them back to back in the same area. ;)

I think McDonald's has iced coffees for a buck. ;)
