I miss spinach and...
09.26.06 (6:21 pm)   [edit]
  • I miss spinach. At the grocery store today, I noticed all the bagged 'salad blends' had stickers on them stating "NO SPINACH".
  • I'm hungry right now, but I'm not hungry. (Know that feeling?) If the light in my fridge worked, I'd be standing in front of it peering in, looking for something to eat. If only I had some raw spinach...
  • Got home to see a thick letter from "the mom". I'm SO not in the mood to read one of her dripping-with-guilt letters right now. Decided not to open it for the time being. It will be there tomorrow, the day after and the day after that. Maybe I'll just hold it until my next counseling appt on Monday. It's absolutely ridiculous that our relationship is reduced to such interaction. I'm supposed to call the referral for the family counseling on Monday. No guarantees "the mom" will actually participate and if she'll actually commit herself to the process (I have my doubts.) If she won't, I think I will have to sever ties with her entirely. For now, I'm not going to worry about that until we reach an impass with the counseling. It's my last hope.

I hate the guilt thing. I don't respond well to it...I can't respect someone who uses it to manipulate. It's a difficult road with moms and daughters. Sorry you are having difficulty in your relationship with her. It's good you keep trying. Hope she shows up...physically and emotionally.

I love spinach...why would they ban spinach? What? Was it so snooty they had to kick it out of the salad club?

They banned fresh bagged spinach for the time being b/c it was making a lot of people sick - had a resistant strain of Ecoli. They haven't been able to determine the source conclusively...

We'll have to wait and see. I went to counseling (by myself) about 4 years ago for the express purpose of finding ways to constructively deal with her. Tried many different approaches to try to alter things. Finally realized that there was nothing I could do but damage control and protecting myself. My mantra became "She really means well."

Conflict between last possible hope and knowing how unwilling she has been in the past to alter things. (ie, when I say no to something, she keeps on and on asking me over and over. When I say "no", I mean it, and asking me 10 more times will not get a different answer, it only pisses me off. I have made a point of saying "For the third time, NO." If she gets to four, I hang up or leave. But she does it all the time.

Sometimes when I'm hungry, I still don't feel like eating -- especially when I'm not craving anything!

I'm now craving chili. Going to make it. (Looking at schedule) Probably won't be able to start fixin' it until Saturday.
By then, the craving will prolly be over.
So I'll freeze it.
