Hair Don't
08.17.06 (5:40 pm)   [edit]

Got my hair cut. It's a lot shorter than I asked for and agreed to. Stylist and I discussed it and she clarified before taking critical chops initially. Then she had me bend my chin to my chest while she was 'just layering' the back. (Which means taking off 3+ inches more in the back than we had agreed to.)

The owner asked me if I was happy. I told her not at all but I would have to make it work because they can't glue my hair back on. She said if I wasn't happy tomorrow, to call her and she'd refund my money.

Haven't tried to style it yet. (Why bother when I'm just going to the gym?)

I'm just wondering. Is there a conspiracy of hairstylists against me? I brought a picture, was quite clear that I wanted my hair to be more than an inch beyond touching my shoulders, came with my hair in its natural curly state so that she could see how much it varies when dry... Once again, my hair (dry) is just under my ears. (And no my ears don't hang right above my shoulders)

Good thing I don't freak out about this sort of stuff.

Didn't this same thing happen to you once before? Odd the owner thought a good night's sleep might change your mind, huh? She should have refunded your money when you told her how unhappy you were!

There have been times when I've not been happy with it, but washed it and styled it myself and found it was manageable. (Didn't like it, but it will grow out...) Worked with it this morning and more upset. Will definitely be getting a refund.

Yes, it's happened to me many times since my stylist went back to the Ukraine or somewhere like that. Didn't make a difference if it was a $90 cut or a $15 cut. Equally bad experiences. In fact, more bad experiences at the more upscale places.

I cried when I was 10 - I had long gorgeous hair - my mother made me get a 'Dorothy Hamil' cut. (You know what that is if you're over 30) I've never forgiven her for that. Maybe I need to bring that up in therapy???

If I cut my own hair, I'd have to ask myself for my money back. And there's no way I could do it evenly. It's waaaaay too short, but at least it doesn't look like I got in a fight with a weedeater. And lost.

I'll color my own hair. And do my own highlights, but I draw the line there.

Extensions? No thanks. They are murder on your hair. And unless they are expertly applied, they look hideous. I don't think a place that does $25 haircuts is going to have the expertise for decent extensions. Fortunately, my hair grows pretty fast. It will be where I wanted it lengthwise by November. (sigh)

Bet you look just fine. Have no idea why they down do what you ask them though. It's a problem I don't have any longer, having so little hair left, though I remember it clearly. It almost feels like a betrayal. Used to make me very angry when it happened. Finally found someone I trusted to do it the way I asked, (which changed from time to time,) and kept having her do it for over twenty years. Miss her, though these days, I sport a buzz and anyone could do it.

oops... "don't do what you ask them to do," rather.

After washing it, even more pissed. I went from hair that was to my shoulder-blades to what I would consider 'short hair'. Can't even put it in a pony tail. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

However, I don't want to be in your shoes. I'm a girly girl and I need hair.

A girly-girl? As opposed to? And no... I'm sure you don't want my hair.

A 'girly-girl' is one that embraces all things feminine. A regular girl doesn't necessarily get so excited about bubble baths, lingerie, high-heels and makeup.

Geez scubs, you don't know when I'm kidding? I know the difference!

I dated a real girly-girl once... I enjoyed her bubble-bath!

(Wish she was home at the time.)
