Missing Children
04.05.06 (5:43 pm)   [edit]

I *STILL* haven't heard from my adopted children. Dinner's been on the table since Sunday. Should I file a missing child report? I'm imagining the conversation now...

"DeKalb County 911"
"Um, hello. I need to report missing children."
"Your children are missing?"
"Apparently."
"How long have they been missing?"
"I'm not sure. TurboTax says I adopted them in 2005, so sometime last year."
"Can you provide a description?"
"Uh. Well, it's either 2 boys or 2 girls or a boy and a girl. I don't know their ages, their names, nothing..."
"Ma'am, are you sane?"
"Well, TurboTax said I adopted 2 children from foreign countries last year. I figured that since I'm getting the deduction, I should file a report to let the IRS know that I'm trying to find them."

She might very well be..but if the IRS every finds out...those are gonna be some biiiiig fines....

TurboTax sucks, you can google a bunch of free ones...heck even the IRS.gov has a link to use some free ones. I did mine like that, got my return back about 2 weeks later.

Alright, it is time for you to know, I am one of your missing children. You have probably erased the memory of my birth of about 40 years ago. But I'm here, and I want my piece of your financial pie. Mom.

I used Turbo-Tax one time. It was easy. I was able to file for a really big refund. And I was audited. Never again.

I think adopting a child that was born several years BEFORE me might cause for some SERIOUS adjustment issues for both of us. ;)
