My Favorite Holiday
02.02.06 (8:11 am)   [edit]

Goundhog Day. My favorite holiday. Silly-sounding I know, but I have a long list of reasons:

1) No greeting cards or gifts are required.

2) No flowers or candy.

3) No family gatherings.

4) No holiday-themed sweets - but give them time, I'm sure they'll have GroundHog Marshmallow Peeps eventually.

5) No pressures to have a date or be romantic.

6) No company parties.

7) The banks are open and there's mail delivery.

8) No fireworks to drive my cats nutty.

9) No religous ceremonies.

10)  No Ground Hog Day songs or tv specials.

Have any others that I missed?

So, in summary, Happy GroundHog's Day! Laughing

Amazing I've never thought of it that way. What an excellent observation

My favorite aspect is that it's almost meaningless either way. What's an early Spring? Five week more of winter instead of six?

Reminds me of Granny on the Beverly Hillbillies spending the whole episode gathering ingredients for her magic cold elixir and finally when she' got it all whipped up, she says "You drink this and you'll be better in seven days! Without it? You'll stay sick for a whole week!"

I keep thinking groundhogs look like beavers but with smaller tails.

Peeps would be appropriate though... :D Great list.
