Wrap him in hot donuts
10.03.05 (7:06 am)   [edit]
Wednesday, I called the police officer that has been 'hot on the case' of "T" (which means he's dialed his number and tried calling information to get a new phone number.)

He returned my call this morning to say that he "hasn't been able to make contact with the gentleman." (Every time he refers to him as 'the gentleman, it makes my stomach roll.) Of course, I asked him if he's tried going to his residence or mailing him a letter.

"No, we don't operate that way."

Ok. I bit my tongue. I was REALLY tempted to let loose. But I figured that wouldn't exactly encourage him to actually do anything. Since I filed the report with his superior officer (who made this guy look like Officer of the Year). I guess I could go up the chain and speak with his boss.

It infuriates me to no end that this guy hasn't gotten off his ass and driven the 3 miles from police headquarters to "T's" house. I've told him approximately when "T" is home, what vehicle he drives including tag number. Maybe if I told him there was a dozen donuts waiting for him at "T's" house?

The atty and the rape crisis center both said that this was pretty standard for my county's police dept. I'm pissed and I'm venting.

Maybe a female Officer would be more understanding and determined to get the info anyway she can...

Start addressing the officer as "Deputy Fife" whenever you talk to him. I heard they really hate that.

it's a shame really how those that pledge to protect and serve don't.

Wow what a bunch of fuckin' morons. I can't believe they can get away with that.

It's amazing how the local law officials operate. They are there to "serve and protect"... but it seems, if it doesn't directly involve them, why should they bother? It's a sad way to operate. Hope things work out, for you, Scuba... *hugs*

I cannot believe it either - when I get through this and on more stable ground, I'd certainly like to be an advocate (aka uber-bitch) for others dealing with my county's PD. It is inexcusable.

I've had to bite my tongue while dealing with this guy. I've wanted to ask him if he has a daughter, if he is aware that mail works. (And the kicker is that he was a lot more sympathetic than his superior...)

If he's such a 'gumshoe' - I'd hate to see how he'd handle a murder.

You would think they would have a female detective or two for the sex crimes division... But nope.

Yes, it's still going on and this detective has done nothing (admittedly) other than see if he has a new phone number listed in the phone book.

I've kept a detailed list of calls made, delays in him returning my calls, and his responses. Whether I go to internal affairs or the local newspaper is yet to be determined, but something clearly needs to be done.

I'm sure that calling him Barney Fife will get things done much faster...

Instead of 'protect and serve', perhaps their new slogan is "dwaddle and do nothing"?

I called him again this morning - left a msg saying that I wasnt' sure if he was still the person handling my case since he hadn't returned my earlier calls. (FIgure that might give him a kick in the pants)
