Interesting news

I had an appt today with a counselor at the rape crisis center. Nice homey sort of facility. The counselor though was a little too...um... empathetic and reassuring. I could have said "I feel a third arm growing from my forehead" and she would have replied "A lot of victims feel that way, it's totally normal and expected" in an uber-soothing voice. (Made me want to bang my head against the wall.) Never been an approach I really responded to - although I'm sure it works for a lot of women.

However I did learn something quite interesting...

Georgia has a victim's compensation fund that will pay up to $25k for medical and counseling costs. The fund is created by fines levied on criminals.

So, I could actually go outside the system to get a counselor that I connect with...

I'm going to talk to the woman that handles the program locally tomorrow. And I tried for the 4th time to call the detective that took the report I filed. Getting fed up with him too.

Other drama going on, but I'll update that tomorrow.

I don't remember the counselor in Heathers. (I bought the DVD but it was jacked and didn't work - never gotten around to exchanging it. Ditto with Malice)

I don't think I could do her justice... you might want to rent it some night. :D

It is so important for you to find someone you believe in. When my exwife bailed on me, she got me an appointment with an awesome counselor (she knew I wouldn't make one myself). I am convinced that woman saved my life. She just knew what to say, and how to say it to me so that I would listen and believe her. You keep going to different ones until you find one like that. You will know it by your first or second visit.

I've done the counseling thing before and definitely agree that if you don't click in the first couple of visits, then you should move on. Sort of like dating...

I think what I'll do is buy another copy and return the bad one. I dug that movie. One of those of our generation - Reality Bites, 16 Candles, B'fast Club, St. Elmo's, Pump Up the Volume...
